Shipping activities in Pertamina was formed into Shipping Division in 1959, marking with acquisition of 2 units 3,200 DWT shallow draft tanker through Bare Boat Hire Purchase (BBHP) system from PT.Caltex. Presidential decree no.44 dated 6 December 1975 set up shipping and Telecommunication Directorate. Further more, on 15 March 1990, Presidential Decree no. 11 established Shipping, Harbour and Communication Directorate, which transformed into PT. PERTAMINA (PERSERO), Marketing & Trading Directorate - Shipping on 2004.Lattery emerging toward the new millennium with "to be an outstanding, developed and well-respected organization" as its vision. The company aims to conduct a professional logistic service provider for oil, gas, petrochemical and other refinery products. On the other hand, it also provide added value to stakeholders by focusing on best service and sustaining the environment . To achieve such missions, the company is creating a better company culture, building new image and applying transparency principles, good corporate governance as well as adequate internal control system.
Currently , the company owns 37 vessels of different types and operates more than 130 vessels ranging from Bulk Lighter up to Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC). The tonnage is dedicated to carry more than 70 million Long ton cargoes annually. As part of vessel replacing program, the company intends to acquire 38 vessels by 2010.
In addtion to the main businnes above, the company also has many established businnesses such as Ship Construction, Chartering, Maritime Services concern with Agency, and Ship Repairs.
